Look, I know this will go over like a lead balloon in here, but it just a reminder.
Saturday Oct 16th is Sweetest Day.
ORIGIN OF SWEETEST DAY
I know I know it's the "hallmark Holiday" thing that turns people off but it's a great excuse to go out to someplace nice or just a little different than usual. Maybe even do that thing where you take your honey out and have a nice bottle of wine and some chocolates waiting when you get home.
WARNING! Wine and cheese causes smelly breath and is not reccomended in a romantic setting. (great in other settings but not if your gonna get all smoochy.

You know maybe go out someplace nice and then come hoime to some candles, a bottle of wine maybe even some berries to go with that chocolate than get down to some serious lip locking.
For the younger sect, I recccomend this.
Movie, share the popcorn maybe go out for ice cream.
If you're dead set on going to dinner, you dont have to blow your whole wad on it. Go with what you can afford and maybe toss in a few little trinkets or something about your first date or something. The person you are with should be what's important.
If you can big, then do so.
Go to a nice romantic type setting, maybe a piano bar.
You dont have to overspend on the wine either. You can get a really nice bottle in the $15-$20 range some even cheaper.
This one is an old favorite.
You go to one of those bath shops and get one of those baskets of whatever she likes or make one up yourself then you put a bottle of champaign with it and maybe some candles.
Be creative. Dinner and a movie can be a great night if you dont do it very often. Maybe a show, some comedy even.
You know, slide the tickets inside the card so he/she is surprised.
oesnt even have to be a for a show that night, can be something they want to do or see down the road.
Here you go. A nice dinner (casual upscale or like I said go big if you can afford it) during dinner or dessert, you hand over the card with the tickets inside.
Whatever you choose to do, remember to have some fun.

I found the origins link interesting, Greg.
Now I'm just trying to wrap my mind around how it evolved to men giving women BIG!!! GLITTERY!!! DIAMONDS!!!!!!
Because, yanno, if the guy doesn't, he obviously doesn't care.

I was hopelessly in love with a girl in 1991 and gave her roses and a poem I wrote for Sweetest Day (in addition to many other occasions I gave her flowers). It was unfortunately unrequited and I have never given flowers to anyone for Sweetest Day since. Not likely I ever will again either. Or Valentines Day or any other holiday involving romance.
